Reflections on Borders, Identity, and Sacred Geometry: My Artist Residency in Madrid

This past year, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in an artist residency in Madrid, Spain. It was a transformative experience that invited me to expand my artistic practice while engaging deeply with the rich cultural and historical landscape of Spain.

During my time there, I was particularly moved by sacred geometry and its presence in the art and architecture of places like the Jewish Quarter in Toledo and the cultural landmarks of Madrid. These influences became a foundation for new works that explore themes of identity, spirituality, and the invisible borders—both personal and societal—that shape our lives.

In my recent artist talk, recorded live at Congregation Shaarai Shomayim, I reflected on this journey and shared how the residency shaped my practice. While works like The Walls We Build and Synchronicity were created prior to the residency, they became touchstones for my ongoing exploration of interconnectedness and impermanence. The pieces I developed during the residency reflect a deepening engagement with these ideas, including gestural ink and pastel works that incorporate themes of sacred geometry and cultural memory.

This video is an invitation to dive deeper into the stories behind my work. I hope it inspires you to explore your own sense of connection to the world around you.
