Studio Roundup

In My Studio - Week of Sept 25th

I find that in certain seasons of my life or certain moods in my week I only want to use black and white. A lot of times it’s pen, pencil, or charcoal. Sometimes it's india ink. Charcoal has a place near and dear in my heart, probably because it was a medium that I used a ton when I started art school. We’d use it in class drawing from a model or a still life. I love the depth of the material and how you can shape things with your fingers, how you can erase it and bring the bright white paper back to the surface. I guess it feels like the most basic extension of myself sometimes.
